Took me a few minutes to get past the intro. What is it with me and intros tonight. 🐀💢

I know there is a community of people that enjoys developing for older consoles, it is a nice throwback, but the game would had definitely benefited from being displayed a little bigger on the browser, its muted colour scheme is drowned by Newground's background. 🐀👍

JoelJGames responds:

I don't think it helps that the controls aren't as obvious on a keyboard with a load of possible combinations compared with a Gameboy!

Thanks for the feedback, I've bumped it up from 640x360 > 960x540 px which hopefully helps a bit!

I get why you went with a scratchy filter over the voices, but trying to understand what they are saying over the scratchiness of the recording just 🐀💢

I definitely suggest either giving the option to turn it off or going easier on the cat over chalkboard filter.

I do like the simple little 3d pixel look and looking through the glasses into the containment chambers was entertaining. I would be more into a game with more of that simulating being a SCP scientist. 🐀👍

Frosty responds:

you can just leave the room and the dialogue stops : )

So we are not supposed to fight the monsters but dodge them, but we /can/ jump on top of them however their funny collision means that you can jump on them but still get hit at times.

I would recommend increasing player speed by ~30-40% so it feels better to move, and giving the enemies a more consistent hitbox so you either can jump on top of them safely or always get hurt when touching them.

Also standing right next to an enemy doesn't get me damaged unless I walk straight into them.

Elv13s responds:

thanks for checking the game out

you can only stun enemies not kill em, but u can fight them, dodging[jumping on top of them] is an additional option and homage to cozy platformers where u just bump into enemies head

the enemy not colliding with you if u stand still is deliberate so the player doesn't get hit when they do nothing. otherwise they can be hit if they're moving WITH the enemy

Some nice effort, but you really should increase the movement speed of the player. 🐀👍

Edit:

There is a run button ❓🐁❓❓

I /heavily/ suggest you switch those around, to make running the default and the run button the 'walk' button or a toggle.

The base movement speed is far too slow to not just run through most of the game, making it button dependent like this is just asking the player to keep a constant grip on the running key for their entire playthrough.

My pinky finger would send you death threats in finger paint if you made it spend twenty minutes pressing down the shift key.

Kai-el-Jefe responds:

Make sure to hold the run button! Really helps, especially in the later levels.

It doesn't even let me click play. 🐀❓

fliptoon responds:

yes!

Cute little project. I had a small issue with the character going back and forth between areas because when I clicked to move it started by moving up and down along the edge of the screen, and that sent it back instead.

Keep improving, keep making, add more rats. 🐀👍

Shai-P responds:

Yeah I dunno how to fix that just yet, it's a weird RPG Maker thing. It's a bit annoying for me too!

I'll see what I can do in an later update. Thanks for playing!

Huh. A.. curious collaboration.

I recommend shortening the intro or giving players the ability to skip it, and the audio mixing definitely needs to lower the values across the board a little, the cat meows while getting hit and scoreboard children screams would had left me deaf had I been using headphones.

I, huh. I have no idea what I just saw here. 🦯🐀

Starting with the instructions or a tutorial might help instead of having them off the side of the main menu, and even if this is a very rough prototype readability of the obstacles is quite an issue, good luck. 🐀👍

CrabTap responds:

Thank you for your feedback, making a distinction between obstacles that damage you and obstacles that end the game is one of our next top priorities. As well as clarity on the false floor with the pitfall. A tutorial is also a nice idea, thanks again. -inthejungleroom :)

Great little game, and it does feel a little forest shack-y. I really liked its design, unfortunately I came across two game ending bugs.

The first, is that right near the end after I finished preparing to face the portal after the shrine, thorns stopped working and the monsters just never died.

Which meant that I had wasted my entire playthrough because I had maximized my build to use thorns with lifesteal, even maxing the "Good" alignment gauge for the +4 thorns.

Not good.

Then, the second bug was more straight-forward. Going into the gate with the mercenary completely bricked my game and save, the game getting stuck in the dungeon with nothing happening even if I reloaded.

Welp.

ErikSwahn responds:

I will look into the mentioned bugs in an instant! Thanks!
